A private sporting club in the traditional sense, Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club is open to members and their guests seven days a week, throughout the year.
TENNIS
The primary sporting activity of the Club is tennis, conducted on 25 courts – 10 grass courts and 15 porous all-weather courts lit for night play.
The Club conducts regular tennis events for members including Club Championships, President’s Day, Mixed Doubles events, Junior Promotion Day, President’s v Captain’s Challenge, Garth Seale Shortest Day Tournament, Teenagers’ Day and Electric Light Tournament.
The dates for these events are listed in the Club Events Calendar circulated to all members.
Club Professionals from SMARTennis conduct a variety of coaching classes and private lessons on the Club courts for all age groups.
Competition Tennis: the Captain’s Committee is responsible for conducting competition tennis within the Club. The Club enters a large number of teams in various competitions, conducted both on week-days and evenings, and on week-ends in Summer and Winter, both for adults and children.
Tuesday Ladies: is an opportunity for social tennis for ladies with playing rights every Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. until around 12 noon.
Sunday Morning Tennis Group: for gentlemen with playing rights is organised on the basis that anyone can turn up and be sure of having a good social game. The group meets every Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. onward.
Monday Morning Ladies: tennis for all lady members including mothers with very young children, who have similar interests. The meeting time is 9:30 a.m. at the Pavilion where the children can observe their mothers playing tennis and enjoy playing amongst themselves in this safe area.
Night Tennis: tennis courts are available from dusk until 10:00 p.m. every night of the week except Sunday.
SQUASH
The Club has two squash courts and besides conducting the annual Squash Championships with Open and Handicap events, the Club enters pennant teams in the Club Circuit competition.
Lasting friendships have been made with Clubs such as Kooyong, RACV, Naval & Military Club and others.
SWIMMING POOL & GYMNASIUM
Our sporting facilities cater for a broad range of leisure, sport and aquatic interests, with new programs being introduced regularly. Facilities and activities include:

- Crèche – child minding
- Swimming lessons for all standards

- The child minding facility is open week-day mornings during school terms, to encourage participation by mothers.
BARS, DINING & FUNCTIONS
The Club has a reputation for excellent food, fine wines and value for money, from breakfast for early morning gymnasium and swimming pool users, through to Sunday luncheons and Bistro dining nightly.
The Courtyard Food Bar offers bistro meals, snacks, cake and tea and coffee daily. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and the Christmas Family Carvery are special celebratory days. Summer barbecues in the Courtyard provide a convivial atmosphere and are popular with members and guests of all ages. A variety of rooms including the Como Room, Courtside Restaurant, Norman Brookes Room and the Committee Room are available for members to conduct private functions.
BRIDGE
The Club encourages an active group of dedicated bridge players. Regular card evenings and group lessons for beginners and advance players are conducted. Matches are also played against other similar Clubs during the year.
BILLIARDS & SNOOKER
Two full-sized tables are available for play. The Club conducts Club Championship events annually and enters a team in the Victorian Billiards & Snooker Association’s City Club Circuit Competition.
CATERING
The Clubhouse Manager can arrange catering in your home or office. Food, liquor, glasses linen and other necessary equipment can be delivered, and staff provided at a reasonable cost.
The Club carries a moderate range of liquor stocks and prices are extremely competitive.
CLUB ITEMS
A comprehensive range of Club items, including tennis and sportswear, swimming accessories, diaries, pens, sports bags, bridge scorers, brooches and note jotters are available from the Courtyard Bar.
EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
A good Club member is an active member. The Club organises events and activities for all members groups and ages to participate in and enjoy.
Events are listed in the Club Calendar and include Guest Speaker Luncheons, Mixed Round Robin Tournaments, Golf Days, Theatre Nights, Wine & Food Tours, Bistro Nights. Seniors Lunch group, Guest Chef fine dining and a Winemakers Lunch.

The Activities Committee has overall responsibility for developing and planning a wide range of activities for all age groups.
The Young Member’s Committee is involved in a number of special Club events, representing a wide cross-section of different interest groups. Ages range from 18 to 25.
The Yarras Committee provides a range of activities for all categories of members, generally between the ages of 25 to 40. This active group encourages members to take full advantage of all the facilities and convivial atmosphere offered by the Club.
ACCOMMODATION
The Club’s residential accommodation comprising four boutique apartments, known as Mont Verdant, high on the hill adjacent to clubhouse and Number Eleven, a one bedroom apartment in Glover Court are available to be booked for use by members and guests. CRECHE
A Child Minding service is available to care for children so members can relax and enjoy the Club’s facilities knowing that friendly professional staff are caring for their children. The service is available on week-day mornings during school terms from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.
PARKING
Members are encouraged to park in the underground garage at the front of the clubhouse, with entry from Williams Road North.
